Course Description

The Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Basic RiderCourse 2 (BRC2) is designed for riders who are already familiar with motorcycle riding and would like to earn their motorcycle (M) license endorsement. To participate, you must be age 14 or older and should have sufficient riding skills and experience to operate a motorcycle with basic proficiency.

The course includes a 4 hour of self-paced eCourse followed by a one day (6 hour) on-motorcycle riding training at one of our MSF approved training ranges. Each class is limited to 8 or less students and is led by an MSF certified RiderCoach. When you register for your course, you will be scheduling your range session. You will use your own motorcycle or scooter for your course. You are required to provide your current registration and proof of insurance, and your motorcycle/scooter must pass a T-CLOCS inspection. Helmets, appropriate apparel, gloves and footwear are required on the range. If you need a helmet, we have them available as part of the course. If you have any questions regarding the course requirements or pre-requisites, please contact us prior to registration. We are here to assist you!

The course begins with your completion of your eCourse (your homework). The eCourse is a highly interactive online program you can complete from the comfort of your own home at your convenience.  Engaging graphics, photos and video are used to illustrate the lessons. Your homework should be completed approximately one week prior to your range session so the information is fresh in your mind. Successful completion of your homework is required for you to participate at the range.

The range course uses exercises similar to our Basic RiderCourse except speeds are higher and geared toward those already familiar with riding. Your RiderCoach will provide clear direction and feedback as you progress through each of the exercises. Plenty of practice is included to allow you to develop your skills.

Exercises include:

  1. Control at low speed

  2. Stopping straight in a turn

  3. Stopping more quickly & tight turns from a stop

  4. Stopping in a curve

  5. Multiple curves & lane changes

  6. Limited space maneuvers

  7. Low-speed decreasing radius curves

  8. Swerving

  9. Skills practice

The course concludes with a written knowledge test and a hands-on riding skill evaluation.  Passing both will earn you your course completion card and waives the Colorado testing requirements for your motorcycle (M) license endorsement. Successful course completion may also provide a discount on your insurance. Be sure to ask your insurance agent.

Not passing the course is a possibility and does sometimes happen. Your RiderCoach and our staff will be there to guide you with options and recommendations should that happen.
